Architectural competition for the new building of the Moravian Jewish Museum
MEHRIN is already past the halfway point, so it was on the spot where the new house will grow,
quite vivid. In the last month, all the competitors have changed in Brno,
to see in person the site where the building is to stand (as a reminder -
next to the bus station at the Grand Hotel, on the site of the existing
powder magazine).
Although the Japanese architect Kengo Kuma did not arrive in person, he sent a team of five to Brno and spent several days there.
Winy Maas (MVRDV) is much closer from Amsterdam, so he will be in Brno
inspected the site, but also managed to discuss with students of the Brno faculty
architecture. Since some are just finishing up their year-long work with the same
assignments like those of their more famous colleagues, they were given such
meeting extremely valuable.
Subsequently, Bjarke Ingels, founder of BIG Studio, arrived on the scene.
(Bjarke Ingels Group), which has been one of the most successful
architectural firms in the world. The Copenhagen native, in fact, came to
Brno just two days after BIG won the architectural competition for
the new building of the Prague Philharmonic! Photo sent to us by Czech architect Jan
Magasanik, who is one of the leading architects of Danish BIG.
The last to visit Brno was Cino Zucchi from the Milan studio of the same name. He met Martin Reiner and Jakub Kynčl from Knesl Kynčl studio, who are preparing the competition.
